The government, for the first time, will allow honorarium for joining seminars and workshops on the online platform Zoom.

It will pay all types of participants in such webinars which have become popular as public servants stay at home to contain the spread of coronavirus.

The government departments of Bangladesh have been organising seminars and workshops on a regular basis through this platform since the outbreak of the pandemic last year.

But the participants have not received any honorarium thus far.

The government usually pays honorarium for physical presence only.

According to a finance division circular, keynote speaker will get Tk 3,500, moderator Tk 3,000, discussants Tk 2,000 and general participant Tk 500 each.

However, the staff who will assist in organising the online event will not be entitled to any honorarium.

They will get Tk 1,500 each for physical attendance in a particular seminar only.

The California-based video communication company has become a "unicorn" company as it has grown robust after the outbreak of Covid-19.

However, the circular says the outlay will be met from the non-development fund of the budget.
