Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said the much-awaited Padma Multipurpose Bridge will be opened for vehicular movement next June.
“Ninety-six per cent of bridge’s main works have already been completed and the overall progress of the project is around 90.50 per cent,” Quader told journalists after a view-exchange meeting with different bridges division officials in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Bridges Division secretary M Manjur Hossen was also present at the meeting, reports BSS.
The minister said 80 per cent of construction works of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman tunnel beneath the river Kornophuli in Chattogram also has been completed.
“We are working to complete the project by December this year,” he added.
Of the three phases of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway, Quader said about 78.50 per cent of works of the first phase of the expressway has already been completed, adding that working progress of Banani-Maghbazar part of the expressway is 31 per cent.
The Minister instructed the officials concerned to further speed up the work of the project.
Replying to the verdict of retired army Major Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan murder case trial, the general secretary of the ruling Awami League said the verdict of the trial proved that the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina believes in rule of law.
Later, Indian Ambassador in Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami made a courtesy call with the minister at his secretariat office in Dhaka.
