The flood situation is expected to improve at low lying places of the country’s ten districts in the next 24 hours starting from Monday morning, according to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC).

The districts are Kurigram, Gaibandha, Jamalpur, Bogra, Tangail, Sirajganj, Pabna, Manikganj, Rajbari and Faridpur while the situation may remain unchanged at low lying places of Munshiganj and Shariatpur districts.

Sardar Udoy Raihan, the sub-divisional engineer of the FFWC, told The Financial Express that the overall situation is expected to improve from Wednesday.

However, nine rivers - Dharla, Brahmaputra, Jamuna, Turag, Kaliganga, Padma, Atrai, Dhaleswari and Muhuri - at 17 points are flowing above their respective danger levels, the centre said.

The water level of Brahmaputra-Jamuna rivers is slowly coming down and it may continue to fall in the next 72 hours, it said, adding that the Ganges-Padma rivers were in steady state and the water level may fall in the next 24 hours.

It also predicts that water levels of all the major rivers in the North-Eastern part of the country are falling and this trend may continue in the next 48 hours.

Currently 13 districts - Kurigram, Gaibandha, Bagura, Jamalpur, Sirajganj, Tangail, Pabna, Manikganj, Gazipur, Rajbari, Faridpur, Munshiganj and Shariatpur - are affected by flood, the centre added.
