Over 30 million people get relief amid COVID-19 pandemic

Over 30 million people across the country have received relief from the government since the outbreak of coronavirus.

An official handout on Monday said the government distributed rice among more than 30 million people of 7.07 million families as humanitarian assistance till Sunday.

Besides, the government handed over cash to more than 18.1 million people of 4.07 million families, the handout added.

According to the information received from the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry, the government allocated 104,434 metric tonnes of rice till April 26 and 80,780 metric tonnes of rice were already distributed.

So far, a total of Tk 430.9 million as cash was allocated in 64 districts across the country and Tk 361.16 million was distributed.

The total allocation for baby food aid is Tk 106.5 million and so far Tk 65.93 million was distributed.

As a result, the number of beneficiary families stands at 198,227 while the number of people is 401,551 people.

Meanwhile, the state-owned Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) sold 1,600.54 metric tonnes of essential commodities at subsidised rates across the country through 498 trucks yesterday.
