1,84,394 freedom fighters are set to get an honorary allowance or around TK 5.53 billion.
"A total of Taka 5,531,820,000 have been released to provide honorary allowance among the 1,84,394 freedom fighters," deputy secretary of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry Mohammad Shafiqul Islam told BSS.
Each freedom fighter is getting Taka 10,000 per month since the month of October this year, he said adding, "We have taken necessary measures for smooth distribution of allowances among the selected freedom fighters during three months -- October, November and December."
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said, "The country has a list of 2,30,000 freedom fighters. We are continuing scrutiny to select real freedom fighters.... We are also very careful to avoid any sort of overlapping." The number of real freedom fighters, who will be selected for allowance stand at 200,000, he added.
The minister said there is no scope for duplication and any malpractices as the government has digitized the total system for ensuring transparency to distribute allowances among the freedom fighters.
"After assuming power, the present government has increased facilities for freedom fighters for upholding the spirit of War of Liberation," headded.
