Old Dhaka fire: Conditions of all nine admitted to DMCH burn unit are 'critical'

All the nine people, who are now taking treatment at the burn unit of the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) after suffering burns in Old Dhaka’s Chalkbazar, are in a 'critical' condition.

The condition of four of them is more critical. One of them has been kept in the intensive care unit and two others will be shifted there soon, said Dr Samanta Lal Sen, coordinator of Sheikh Hasina National Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute at the DMCH on Thursday noon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina herself phoned him to inquire about the condition of the patients, he said.

Those admitted to the hospital with burn injuries are Anwar, 55, Mahmudul, 52, Selim, 44, Helal, 18, Rezaul, 21, Zakir, 35, Mozaffar, 32, Sohagh, 25, and Salahuddin, 45.

Sohag and Rezaul suffered 60 per cent burns, while Anwar, Rezaul, Zakir and Sohag had their respiratory systems burned.

 A total of 18 people came to the hospital after suffering burns in the fire that broke out at around 10:30 pm on Wednesday.
