Off-duty cop dies in clash at N’ganj cattle market
A constable died and at least 30 others were injured after a clash broke out at a cattle market in Narayanganj, police have said, reports bdnews24.com. The incident was reported from the district's Araihazar Upazila Friday afternoon. Constable Rubel Mahmud, who was spending his Eid holidays in his native Kalapaharia Union, was severely injured when the clash erupted between two groups over sales commission raised from the cattle market. He succumbed to his injuries later at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital or DMCH, said Narayanganj's Additional Superintendent of Police Matiar Rahman. Quoting witnesses, the senior police officer said some local Awami League activists set up a cattle market at the local Radhanagar High School ground. "An argument broke out between the organisers on Friday afternoon over sales commissions raised from the market. Soon after, two groups of men, armed with sharp weapons, clashed with each other." Constable Rubel, who was attached to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police's counterterrorism unit, was rushed to the DMCH with severe injuries inflicted by sharp weapons, where doctors declared him dead. Additional police were deployed in the area following the clash, said Additional SP Rahman
