The number of e-TIN holders has exceeded three million in the country, according to the statistics of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), reports BSS.
A total of 30,50,405 people got registered with the electronic tax identification number (e-TIN) till August this year, which the NBR describes as a success towards its revenue collection efforts.
Revealing the statistics, NBR member Md Abdur Razzaque said: "Citizens of the country are being conscious and they are spontaneously getting registered with e-TIN."
He said nearly 50,000 new tax payers are completing e-TIN registration every month.
"e-TIN holders would reach 35 lakh within the current fiscal," hoped the NBR member.
New job opportunities are being created with the rapid expansion of trade and business, and at the same time e-TIN has been made mandatory for the government employees from last fiscal that has boosted the number of tax payers, he observed.
NBR has put focus on the submission of income tax return as the main sources of revenue generation that is why it has planned to bring five million (50 lakh) people under the tax net by 2021.
"We want to bind 50 lakh people with tax net before the golden jubilee celebration of country's independence," said Abdur Razzaque.
To this end, he said, NBR is working to knot up 7,000-8,000 people with tax net annually.
NBR is expanding activities to the upazila level and increasing tax survey. The NBR has also directed its field level officials to find out the people who are able to submit minimum tax as such people still remain out of tax net.
