Students will get no concession while riding on the metro rail, MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), has said.
However, MRT cardholders will receive a 10 per cent discount for each trip, he told a press briefing at Agargaon Station on Tuesday.
Moreover, children who are three feet or less in height and accompanied by a parent will not need a ticket to ride the MRT, according the DMTCL managing director.
Freedom fighters will get to ride totally free, and physically challenged people will get a 15 per cent discount on a single ride, Mr. Siddique said.
The ticket price from Uttara to Agargaon and vice versa will be Tk 60, he said.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, attending the press conference, also briefed the media on the metro rail.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the first ever metro rail from Uttara North Station on Wednesday, he said.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Ltd. will operate trains from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, with a 10-minute interval, he said.
Initially, the road transport and bridges minister noted, 200 passengers will be permitted to ride the MRT every 10 minutes in order to become acquainted with the modern system.
Finally, on March 26, Mr. Quader said, the metro rail will go into a full-fledged operation, touching all stations from Uttara to Agargaon.
