Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has strongly criticised a section of labour leaders for their ill efforts to defame own country by lodging complaints with foreigners.

Sheikh Hasina also asserted that there will be no benefit from lodging complaints as long as she remains in power, reports BSS.

"As as long as I remain in (state) power, there will be no benefit from lodging complaints with anybody of the outside of the country," she said.

"... I'm the daughter of the Father of the Nation and I run the state by loving the country and its people," Sheikh Hasina added.

The Prime Minister made the remarks while addressing a function marking the May Day 2018 at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.

The premier said, "Our aim is to uphold the country's independence which was earned in exchange for blood of three million martyrs.

She said the government will uphold the dignity of the country and the countrymen on the world stage.

"We will move ahead keeping our head high not bowing to others," the PM said.

According to UNB, Sheikh Hasina urged both employers and workers to maintain cordial relations among them avoiding any mayhem in their workplaces.

"Mayhems break out when one pays heed to any instigation from any outsider. I'm warning all so that such thing never happens," she said.

The PM urged workers to give special attention to their workplaces so that those are not destroyed in any way as those provide them and their families with livelihoods.

Sheikh Hasina also requested the owners to be cordial with their workers.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment organised the function with State Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu in the chair.

Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Labour and Employment Ministry Munnujan Sufian, Bangladesh Employers Federation President Qamran T Rahman, Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Siddiqur Rahman, Jatiya Sramik League President Alhaj Shukkur Mahmud and International Labour Organisation (ILO) Country Representative in Bangladesh Gagan Rajbhandari also spoke on the occasion.

Labour and Employment Secretary Afroza Khan gave the welcome address.

At the programme, the Prime Minister handed over financial assistance to two ailing workers, families of four workers killed in accidents, and four meritorious children of workers.
