No annual secondary exams in pandemic this year: Dipu Moni

No annual secondary examinations will be held due to the coronavirus situation in the country this year, Education Minister Dipu Moni has said.

The minister came up with the development at a virtual press briefing on Wednesday.

The students from Class VI to Class IX, however, will be evaluated and promoted to the next class, she said.

They will be assessed on weekly assignments to be assigned by the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) based on an abridged version of its syllabus, Dipu Moni said.

The abridged version of the syllabus will soon be available on the websites of NCTB and educational institutes concerned, she said.

The education minister, however, made it clear that whatever the evaluation is, it will not bar students from being promoted to the next class.

She noted that the technical education board examinations will be held as those examinations can be held bypassing the coronavirus situation.

The final decision of how the technical education board examinations can be held will be determined soon, she continued.

Earlier, the education ministry had extended the closure of all the educational institutions of the country to October 31 citing lack of significant improvements in the Covid situation.

On March 16, the government closed all educational institutions to prevent the spread of the coronavirus. No classes have been held since that day.
