Members of Bangladesh Navy have detained 26 Indian fishermen along with two fishing boats from the Fairway Buoy area of the Bay of Bengal for illegally fishing inside the Bangladesh water territory.

Iqbal Bahar Chowdhury, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station, said Navy members detained the fishermen on Thursday afternoon during their regular patrolling, according to a UNB report Sunday.

“They were netting fish 90 nautical miles off the Mongla Port,” he said, adding that the detainees were handed over to police on Saturday and two cases were filed against them.
