Natore hog plum growers make good profit this season

NATORE, Aug 31: Hundreds of hog plum growers of Natore are making a good profit this season due to the satisfactory market price.
According to the DAE office source farmers had shown more interest to grow the fruits commercially as it's proved them more lucrative elsewhere the district. The DAE has provided all sorts of necessary agri-imput among the growers to make the programme a grand success.
The farmers grow the fruits in their homestead and orchard. Most farmers cultivate in the fruits on small scale. From last few years back, the farmers have started cultivating the hog plum commercially aiming for financially self-reliant across the district.
In a recent visit this corresponded found each kilogram of the fruit is being sold from Tk 30 to Tk 50 according the quality and size in all kitchen markets of the districts. The farmers, who cultivate the crops commercially bring the fruit to the kitchen market to sell them with good price. Some sacks of the load fruits is beings send to the different district mitigating the local demand.
"I have got five maund of fresh fruits yield from my trees big size hog plum tree and sold for Tk 7,200 in the local markets spending Tk only 150 for prey the insecticide," said farmer Jahidul Hasan under Shingra upazila of the district. He again said, "I will bring some 34 decimal of land under hog plum cultivation upcoming year."
Wholesaler Shamsul Hasan, 34, under Boraigram upazila said he purchased some ten maund of the fruit from the district with Tk 12,000 and to make Tk 2000 as profit. He is expecting buy the twenty maund of the hog plum after Eid-ul-Azha to send them to capital city Dhaka.
Upazila agriculture officer of Boraigram said, cultivation of hog plum is very profitable than other fruits. The farmers getting benefited to bring more barren land under the fruits cultivation, he added.
