Natore goes under lockdown after spike in virus cases

The local administration of Natore is going to put the district under lockdown on Thursday following a surge in coronavirus cases among people there.

Deputy Commissioner Shah Riaz came up with the announcement at noon.

The restriction will remain in force from 3:00pm on Thursday until further notice, reports a news agency.

A physician of Natore Sadar Hospital has been diagnosed with coronavirus, creating panic among the doctors and health workers of the hospital.

Nine people, including the two health workers, were diagnosed with COVID-19 in Singra upazila on Tuesday and Wednesday.

With an increase in coronavirus cases, the local administration and Coronavirus Preventing and Controlling Committee took the decision to put the whole district under lockdown.

Bangladesh has seen a surge in coronavirus cases in recent days. On Wednesday, the country reported 641 cases and eight deaths. Until then, the health authorities have confirmed 7,103 cases and 163 deaths.

According to government data, 48 districts and 389 upazilas remain under complete lockdown.
