Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum announces three-day programme against rape

Nari O Shishu Odhikar Forum, a platform of BNP, on Tuesday announced a three-day programme in protest against violence against women and children, including inhuman repression of a woman in Noakhali’s Begumganj and a gang-rape of a woman at MC College in Sylhet.

Selima Rahman, convener of the forum and a BNP standing committee member, declared the programmes at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.

As part of the programmes, the forum will observe a sit-in programme in front of the Jatiya Press Club on October 8:00 and form human chains in all districts across the country on October 10.

Besides, the forum will stage protest rallies on the premises of district courts and submit a memorandum to deputy commissioners.

“The rise in the violence against women and children across the country is unprecedented. People are passing their days in extreme uncertainty. A country can’t be run this way,” Selima said.

She urged all irrespective of their professional and political identities to get united and build a resistance against the oppressors and rapists.

A housewife in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila was allegedly molested by some local miscreants at Ward No. 9 of Eklashpur Union of the upazila last month but the incident came to light after a video of the barbaric incident went viral on the internet.

The miscreants tortured the housewife after undressing her and filmed the video of the incident in Begumganj upazila, sending a shockwave throughout the country.

On September 25, a group of miscreants tied up a man and raped his 19-year-old wife at the MC College dormitory. After police rescued the couple, the victim’s husband filed a case with Shahporan Police Station against nine people mentioning the names of six, reports UNB.
