Mymensingh, one of the eight divisional headquarters, has become the 12 city corporation in the country.
The National Implementation Committee for Administrative Reorganisation (NICAR) on Monday approved a local government ministry’s proposal to upgrade the Mymensingh municipality into a city corporation.
According to local news agencies, the approval was given at a NICAR meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
NM Ziaul Alam, secretary (coordination and reform) at the cabinet division, confirmed the media about the approval.
According to bdnews24.com, Mymensingh was declared the eighth administrative division of the country in 2015.
It consists of four districts—Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sherpur and Netrokona.
In August, a new education board, the 11th in the country, was formed to monitor secondary and higher secondary level institutions in the districts under the division.
