Myanmar's army chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing urged citizens of the country to be united over Rohingya issue.

He also claims the Rohingya was never an ethnic group in Myanmar.

"They have demanded recognition as Rohingya, which was never an ethnic group in Myanmar," reads a post on Min Aung Hlaing's official Facebook page, reports bdnews24.com on Sunday.

There were 93 clashes in the violence of extremist Bengalis that started to break out on Aug 25, it quoted the army chief saying.

"The violence was an organised attempt of extremist Bengalis in Rakhine State to build a stronghold in Buthidaung and Maungtaw," the post read.
