Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said the decision about his visit to Myanmar will be taken after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina returns home from the USA.
“The Myanmar visit will be finalised after consultation with the Prime Minister,” he told reporters at his office, reports UNB.
The minister said they will give importance to two issues – repatriation of Rohingyas from Bangladesh and drugs -– during the visit. “Illegal drugs enter our country from Myanmar.”
Myanmar has recently invited the minister to visit the country to discuss bilateral issues.
Asaduzzaman, however, does not see the violation of Bangladesh airspace by Myanmar helicopters and drones, and the deployment of its forces along the border as threats to Bangladesh, saying, “We’re monitoring the situation with patience and we believe in resolving the problem through talks, not war.”
Replying to a query, he said law enforcement agencies remain on high alert so that Rohingyas cannot get involved in criminal activities. “The law enforcers are keeping their eyes on the Rohingyas round the clock so that no criminal activity takes place,” he said.
Brushing aside Myanmar’s allegation that Bangladesh is giving shelter to terrorists to launch terrorist activities targeting that country, Asaduzzaman reiterated that Bangladesh never allows any separatist or terrorist group to use its soil and will never allow this.
Asked about the plying of vehicles of a state minister and secretaries on the wrong side of road, the minister said everyone should abide by the traffic rules and the drive against such vehicles will continue.
