Myanmar border guards 'abduct four BD fishermen'

Four Bangladeshi fishermen were reportedly abducted by Myanmar's Border Guard Police (BGP) at gunpoint from the Naf River on Tuesday.

The fishermen are - Azim Ullah Majhi, Mohammad Abdullah, Abul Kalam and Mohammad Hasan of Shahparir Dwip in Teknaf upazila.

Border Guard Bangladesh has not confirmed the report but said it is looking into the matter.

"BGP members approached the fishing trawler on a speedboat and took away the fishermen at gunpoint," said local union parishad member Fazlul Haq.

He said the concerned authorities have been informed.

The administration imposed a ban on fishing in the Teknaf's Naf River on August 25, 2017, to prevent Rohingya intrusion and drug smuggling, reports UNB.
