A 94-year-old woman and her daughter were found dead inside the reserve water tank of a house in Chattogram on Sunday.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner (Bayezid Bostami Zone) Sohel Rana said the bodies were recovered from the Meher Manzil home in the Ambagan area of Khushli Thana after a relative reported the situation.
The victims were identified as Shah Meherun Nessa Begum and her mother Monowara Begum.
Meherun Nessa was former Rupali Bank Principal Officer and lived at the home with her 94-year-old mother, reports bdnews24.com.
Police said Meherun Nessa lived on the ground floor of the building while the remaining three floors were under construction.
The unmarried Meherun Nessa has four brothers and four sisters, some of whom live abroad. The two lived alone at the house.
Police said a relative visiting the house found the door open this morning and reported the situation to police after they could not be found.
"Police went to the scene and then found the bodies in the reserve tank,” a police official said..
The fire service has been contacted to recover the bodies and police are investigating the crime scene, he said.
“We believe the two were murdered and then dumped into the water tank.”
