A sewer worker, who went missing after entering a manhole to clean the sewerage line in Mirpur area of Dhaka on Tuesday, was found dead nearly after 24 hours on Wednesday afternoon.
A group of sewer workers went down the manhole to clean the line near Chalantika intersection on Milk Vita Road in Mirpur around 3:30pm on Tuesday.
All except one worker, aged around 18-20, subsequently came out.
Being informed, a team from Mirpur Fire Service station went to the spot and started a rescue operation from Tuesday afternoon.
They recovered the body of the missing worker from 300-400 metres off the spot around 3:40pm today, said duty officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence central control room Mahfuz Reven.
The identity of the victim could not be ascertained till filing of this report around 5pm, said sub-inspector Palash of Rupnagar Police Station.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for post mortem, he said.
