A local leader of the ruling Awami League was hacked to death by miscreants at Hasnapara in Lama upazila of Bandarban district on Tuesday night.
The deceased was identified as Alamgir Shikdar, former joint general secretary of Sarai union unit of Awami League. He was the son of Mohammad Ali of the area, reports UNB.
Quoting locals, Oppela Raju Naha, officer-in-charge of Lama Police Station, said a group of miscreants riding motorbikes, numbering about 12, attacked Alamgir's house around 11:00pm and stabbed him indiscriminately.
Shikdar was killed on the spot.
Police recovered the body and sent it to the sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy.
A young man, identified as Mongshai Marma, was detained for his suspected involvement in the murder, police said.
