A local Awami League leader and freedom fighter was shot to death by miscreants at Rooppur village in Iswardi upazila of Pabna on Wednesday night.
The deceased was identified Mustafizur Rahman Selim, 62, former general secretary of Pakshi union unit of AL and resident of the village, reports a news agency.
Victim's younger brother Rubel said a group of miscreants in a motorcycle opened fire on Selim as soon as he reached near his house from Rooppur BBC Bazar on foot.
The attackers sprayed the AL leader with several bullets, leaving him injured.
He was first taken to Iswardi Health Complex where doctors referred him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
However, Selim died on the way to hospital, said officer-in-charge of Iswardi Police Station Bahauddin Faruki.
The reason behind the killing could not be known, Faruki said, adding that they were looking into it.
