Mild cold wave likely to sweep over country from Tuesday

A mild to moderate cold wave may sweep over most parts of the country from Tuesday as the temperature is likely to remain between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius from that day, according to a met official.

AKM Ruhul Kuddus, a meteorologist at Bangladesh Meteorological Department( BMD), told The Financial Express that the country's lowest temperature was recorded at 9.1 degrees Celsius in Srimangal in the last 24 hours until 6:00 am today (Sunday).

The mild cold wave may prevail across the country including the central part, he added.

However, the met official said the temperature may increase from January 7.

It is to note that, temperature between 8 to 10 degrees Celsius is termed as a mild cold wave.

The moderate cold wave is termed when the temperature is recorded between 6 to 8 degrees Celsius while the temperature below 6 degrees Celsius is called intense cold wave, the meteorologist added.

In its 72-hour forecast, the BMD said that night temperature may fall.

The weather may remain dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky over the country in the next 24-hours, the met office said this morning.

Moderate to thick fog may occur over the country from midnight to morning, it said.

Night temperature may remain nearly unchanged and day temperature may fall slightly over the country, the BMD added.

Ridge of sub-continental high extends up to West Bengal and adjoining area, it said, adding that seasonal low.
