The first set of the metro train has run for the first time on a trial basis inside the depot of Mass Rapid Transit Line- 6 as part of its performance test.
During the trial, the train set ran at a nominal speed so that people can witness it, reaching the stabling yard of the depot at Diabari at 11:53am on Tuesday.
The event was also witnessed by Road Transport and Highways Division Secretary Nazrul Islam Nazrul Islam and Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Ito Naoki, among others.
Road transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader joined the metro train trial trial ceremony virtually.
The first set of the metro train set having six coaches, from Japan, arrived at the metro rail depot workshop in Dhaka’s Uttara on April 23.
Afterwards, the supplying Japanese company put the first set of the metro train to a static test and then connected it with the electric system to operate in the stabling yard for conducting the other test.
Speaking on the occasion, Road Transport and Bridge Minister Obaidul Quader said 64 per cent progress was recorded till now in MRT 6 project.
People can see the movement of the metro train on the viaduct in August, when it is to be put to a performance test following the completion of its test run on the test track, he said.
