Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq, who had been undergoing treatment at a London hospital for neurological problem, passed away on Thursday. He was 65.
He breathed his last at London's Wellington Hospital around 4:23pm London time (10.23pm BD time), said his personal assistant Mizanur Rahman.
Annisul was put on life support on Monday as his condition deteriorated. Later, doctors found infection in his lungs.
The city corporation in a media statement reported the mayor’s death.
Several local agencies and television channels also confirmed the news.
The statement said his body will be flown to Dhaka on Saturday morning.
He would be buried at Banani Graveyard after funeral prayers at the Army Stadium on the same day.
It also urged the people to pray for the peace of the departed soul.
