Maritime ports of Bangladesh have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three as cyclone Yaas weakened into a deep depression over north Odisha and the adjoining Jharkhand area in the morning.

The met office in a special bulletin on Thursday said the maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three.

The special bulletin, which is signed by Hafizur Rahman, meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department, said the cyclone is likely to move north-north-westwards further and is weakening gradually.

A steep pressure gradient persists over the north bay and coastal areas of Bangladesh, it said, adding that the sea will remain rough.

Under the influence of steep pressure gradient, the districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Jhalakati, Pirojpur, Barguna, Patuakhali, Barishal, Bhola, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, and Chattogram districts and their offshore islands, and chars are likely to experience wind speed up to 50-60 km per hour in gusts or squalls, the bulletin said.

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and the deep sea have been advised to remain in shelter until further notice.
