Police have arrested a young man for opening fire on a police checkpoint in Chittagong.
The latest arrests made on Sunday takes the number of arrestees to six over the incident that left an assistant sub-inspector of Panchlaish Police Station injured on Friday.
The man who opened fire on ASI Abdul Malek has been identified as Md Khokon, said Chittagong DMP Deputy Commissioner Abdur Warish.
Two others held in the latest raid are Ayman Jihad and Mahi.
Khokon and Ayman were picked up from the district town while Mahi was netted in Rahman Nagar, said the DC.
Police held two SSC examinees over the incident from Muradpur neighbourhood on Friday night, DC Warish had said.
One Md Hakim was arrested immediately after the incident on Friday evening.
The three were named in a case started by Panchlaish police’s Sub-Inspector Nurul Islam that accuses 10 people.
Some youths riding three motorbikes opened fire on police near Panchlaish gate No. 2 at 4pm Friday, reports bdnews24.
The attackers, aged between 15 and 20, were involved in mugging and opened fire to evade arrest for possessing illegal firearm, police had said.
ASI Abdul Malek is taking treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital for gunshot wounds.
Police seized the motorcycles but could not trace the gun.
