Maitree Express train hits vehicle in Sirajganj, three dead

A Dhaka-bound Maitree Express train, which runs between India and Bangladesh, has rammed a vehicle in Sirajganj, killing three people.

Nazir Hossain, a fire fighter at Ullapara Fire Service Station, said the incident took place at Kamarkhanda Upazila around 1:30pm on Saturday, reports bdnews24.com.

The passengers were cattle traders. They were carrying cattle in the vehicle.

The vehicle locally known as Votvoti was crossing the railway track with cattle, said Fire Service Officer Nazir.

“At that time the Dhaka-bound train Maitree Express from Kolkata collided with the Votvoti.

The driver died on the spot.”

Five more cattle traders were injured in the accident, he said. The locals rescued them and sent them to Kamarkhanda Upazila Health Complex. Two more cattle traders died in the hospital.

Two cows also died during the accident, said Nazir.
