Local administration imposed section 144 at Madarpur Char in Godagari upazila on Sunday over cricket tournament arranged by two factions of ruling Awami League at the same venue and same time.
AL faction led-by local mayor Monirul Islam Babu and Omar Faruk Chowdhury MP have arranged separate cricket tournament at the char on Sunday, creating tension in the upazila, as per report on UNB.
Apprehending nuisance, the local administration on Saturday night imposed the emergency section apparently to maintain law and order as two disputing groups did not reach any consensus, said sources at Upazila Nirbahi Officer's office.
