Speakers here called upon lawyers and others concerned to be more sincere for ensuring legal aids to the grassroots poor, distressed and other litigants.

They said that all people are equal to the eye of law. So, all people should have access to legal aid coverage whenever they need, reports BSS.

Legal aid related cases should be prioritised to ensure speedy disposal for the greater interest of the distressed and poor people.

The District Legal Aid Committee organised the discussion on the District Judge's Court premises to mark the National Legal Aid Day-2022 on Thursday like other parts in the country.

The theme of this year is "Take legal assistance free of cost, Sheikh Hasina's government is giving this assurance (Bina Kharche Nin Ainee Sahayata, Sheikh Hasina's sarkar dichchhe Ai Nishchayata)'.

With Senior District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of District Legal Aid Committee Muhammad Asaduzzaman in the chair, Divisional Director of Local Government Division Enamul Haque and Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zakir Hossain addressed the meeting.

Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Zahidul Islam, Additional District Magistrate Sabiha Sultana and District Legal Aid Officer Tanjim Alam, among others, also spoke.

The speakers unanimously emphasised the need for concerted efforts of all quarters to ensure access to justice of the distressed and disadvantaged people.

They viewed that infusing dynamism in the legal aid services could be the effective means of attaining the cherished goal. District Legal Aid Committee Chairman Muhammad Asaduzzaman said only the judiciary or any other organisation is not sufficient to ensure legal aid to the underprivileged people, but a comprehensive effort is essential in this regard.
