Laws, policies regarding child labour need to be reviewed

Some laws and policies regarding child labour need to be reviewed and amended to ensure their rights and protect them from all kinds of torture and torment.

Apart from this, it is necessary to enact the Right to Education Act in order to implement the National Education Policy on Child Labour.

The observation was made at a workshop styled 'Analysis of Government Policies, Laws and Regulations Regarding Child Labor Issues' in the city on Sunday.

Joint efforts are required at local and national level to make the government accountable and responsible to fulfill its commitments to realise the rights of all children under the obligation of ratifying United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of Child (UNCRC) and ILO C 182, they added.

Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF) in support with Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) organised the function.

Md Mahbubul Haque, chairperson in charge of BSAF, chaired the event.

Abdus Shahid Mahood, director of BSAF, gave welcome address while Sharfuddin Kha, child protection specialist, presented  the keynote paper at the programme.

Besides, representatives of different NGOs and International NGOs were present at the event.
