Kurigram’s deputy commissioner Sultana Pervin will be withdrawn over her involvement in the midnight arrest and jailing of a local journalist, said state minister for public administration Farhad Hossain today (Sunday).

The order to withdraw her will be issued once prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who herself is in charge of the public administration ministry, approves the related file, he told a media briefing at the Secretariat, according to local media reports.

Local administration looked into the allegations against the Kurigram deputy commissioner and found authenticity in them, the state minister said.

Therefore, a departmental case will be initiated against her, following which she will be punished proportionately for what she committed, he said.

A mobile court detained and jailed Ariful Islam, the Kurigram district correspondent of Bangla Tribune and Dhaka Tribune, on charges of possessing drugs in the early hours of Saturday.
