Korea pledges $700,000 for Rohingya in Cox’s Bazar

The Republic of Korea has pledged to provide $700,000 to the Rohingya refugees taking shelter in Cox’s Bazar through International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The Republic of Korea made the announcement as part of the country's support to address the Rohingya humanitarian crisis in Bangladesh since 2017.

“The Republic of Korea has been working closely with the international community in addressing the Rohingya humanitarian crisis since 2017. In particular, Korea has been supporting IFRC's Emergency Appeal and Emergency Plan of Action for Population Movement Operation in Cox's Bazar. This year again, the Republic of Korea will provide IFRC with $700,000 for its activities in Cox's Bazar,” read a statement of the country’s embassy in Dhaka.

The Republic of Korea has collaborated with IFRC to address other humanitarian challenges, especially in disaster reduction, in Bangladesh, it added.

Through KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), the Republic of Korea has implemented two multi-year collaboration projects with IFRC Bangladesh Office on the "Integrated Flood Resilience Programme through Community-based Disaster Reduction" in Bangladesh by contributing total $2.0 million from 2015 to 2020.

Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bangladesh is committed to working closely with international partners to address Bangladesh's humanitarian challenges, it mentioned further.
