Journos protest ACC notice to fellow

Journalists formed a human chain in front of the gate of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in the city's Shegunbagicha area protesting what they said the issuance of 'disgraceful' notice by the Commission on a journalist over a graft issue.

They announced that they will gather at the same place and go for a tougher programme if the ACC does not withdraw the notice by Wednesday.

The four-point demand of the journalists include withdrawal of the notice within Wednesday, express regret issuing the notice, punitive action against the official concerned following issuing the notice in 'disgraceful language' and removal of all obstacles in journalists' entrance to ACC.

Addressing the programme, president of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) Abu Jafar Surya said the ACC has issued a notice using disgraceful language.

"They must withdraw the notice within today (Wednesday) and take necessary punitive action against ACC director Sheikh Md Fanafillah who issued the letter," he said.

DUJ former general secretary Mursalin Nomani, former President of Bangladesh Crime Reporter's Association Parvez Khan, general secretary Mahbubul Alam Lablu, general secretary of Diplomatic Correspondents' Association of Bangladesh (DCAB) Nurul Islam Hasib were, among others, present, reports UNB.
