Journalist Rahman Jahangir passes away

Veteran journalist Rahman Jahangir has passed away aged around 68.

He died at Lab Aid Hospital in Dhaka city at 5 am on Monday, his family says. He was currently editorial consultant of The Financial Express.

Rahman Jahangir had also worked for The Independent as its founding news editor and The Daily Star as its joint news editor.

Born on July 4, 1950 in the capital, he did his honours and masters in economics at Dhaka University.

He was a permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club.

Jatiya Press Club president Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and general secretary Farida Yasmin expressed deep shock at his death.

The senior journalist's first namaz-e-janaza has been held on the premises of the National Press Club at 1:30pm and the second one will be held after asr prayers at a moqsue near his Kalabagan residence.

When his brother Maksudur Rahman returns from the US today, he will be taken to their village Mashundha under Matlab upazila in Chandpur.

He will be buried there after the third and last namaz-e-janaza Tuesday morning.

Rahman Jahangir left behind his wife, three children, and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
