JCD chief Rajib on 5-day remand for sabotage charges

A Dhaka court on Friday put Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) President Rajib Ahsan on a five-day remand for questioning him in police custody in a sabotage case filed with Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mazharul Islam passed the order after police produced 14 people, including Rajib Ahsan, before it with a 10-day remand petition.

Besides, the 13 other detainees were put on one-day remand each, says UNB.

Earlier on Thursday, police arrested Rajib Ahsan and others from BNP's Nayapaltan central office area.

Witnesses said some 20-25 JCD leaders and activists brought out a procession in Nayapaltan area around 4:30pm protesting the verdict of a special court that sentenced BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia to five-year imprisonment and five others, including Tarique Rahman, to 10 years' imprisonment in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

However, police dispersed the procession and picked them up, including Rajib.

Later on Thursday night, police filed a case with Paltan Police Station against the arrestees on allegation of destructive activities.
