The Jatiya Oikya Front has chosen the ‘paddy sheaf’ as its symbol to contest the 11th parliamentary election slated for December 30.
The decision was taken at a meeting, according to Mahmudur Rahman Manna, a leader of the new opposition alliance.
“All the parties of the Oikya Front will contest the polls by picking a common symbol. That common symbol is paddy sheaf,” he said.
BNP, Gono Forum, Nagorik Oikya, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rab) and Jatiya Oikya Prokriya together launched the anti-government alliance led by Dr Kamal Hossain on October 13. Kader Siddique and his party Krishak Sramik Janata League joined the Oikya Front later.
The Oikya Front had decided to join the election despite the government’s refusal to meet its seven-point charter of demands, bdnews24 reported.
The Election Commission revised the polls schedule, deferring the 11th parliamentary election by a week. It set November 28 as the deadline for filing nomination papers, December 2 for scrutiny and December 9 as the last date of withdrawal.
