The rate of internal migration in Bangladesh declined to 73.8 per thousand of population in the past year from 76.7 per thousand in 2016.
The ‘Report on Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2017’, released in June this year, unveiled the trend.
It also showed that rural in-migration dropped to 32.7 per thousand in 2017 from 34.5 per thousand in the previous year. It is the migration that includes rural to rural and urban to rural migrations.
In a similar vein, urban in-migration declined to 119.4 per thousand in the past year from 123.0 per thousand in 2016. It includes urban to urban and rural to urban migration.
Overall, the in-migration is a type of migration that takes place within the country.
