Various initiatives will be taken for the retired journalists for providing different facilities including pension and group insurance.
Social Welfare Minister Rashed Khan Menon on Tuesday said this while speaking at a seminar organised by Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) at its auditorium at Circuit House Road in the city.
"They (journalists) always represent the demand and rights of other people but they never asked for themselves... So initiatives would be taken for giving them different facilities including pension and group insurance," he said.
Menon said, Sangbadik Welfare Trust could take necessary steps to provide health services and other facilities, reports BSS.
"The number of allowance recipients will be increased in the next budget," he assured.
PIB Director M Elius Bhuiyan presided over the programme while non- government organisation Executive Director of Prabin Bandhu Dr Mahsin Kabir Limon presented keynote paper.
Director General of Probin Hitoishi Sangha and Professor of Social Welfare Department of Dhaka University Dr ASM Atikur Rahman, former General Secretary of Jatiya Press Club Swapan Kumar Saha, country director of Help Age International Rabeya Sultana Laizu and General Secretary of Bangladesh Sangbadik Odhikar Forum Ataur Rahman, among others, were present.
