India sent back around 40-45 Bangladeshis with COVID19-like symptoms, just as they entered its state of Tripura through Akhaura check-post on Friday.

All of them had valid travel documents, officials were quoted by state news agency Press Trust of India as saying, reported India's Business Standard.

West Tripura District Surveillance Officer Sangeeta Chakraborty said, "A total of 40-45 Bangladeshis were sent back as they were found to be having fever, running nose, cough and difficulty in breathing. These are the symptoms of the COVID- 19. So, they were sent back."

She added that those who were allowed to enter India through the Akhaura Integrated Check Post would be quarantined for 14 days in Tripura.

Chakraborty said those having medical visas were allowed to enter till 5.30 pm only after they passed the thermal scanner test.

Surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, Tripura shares an 856-km-long border with it and has eight designated check-posts, including Akhaura ICP.
