Tourist visas for travelling between India and Bangladesh which remained closed since coronavirus outbreak in March 2020 are expected to resume soon.
With the resumption of issuance of the tourist visas, train services between Bangladesh and India will also be restarted.
The hope came when Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Vikram Kumar Doraiswami called on Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujon at Rail Bhaban in the capital on Wednesday.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the resumption of the cross-border rail services of Moitry, Bandhan and Mitali express trains and progress of the projects being implemented under the Indian Line of Credit (LoC).
In particular, both the minister and the high commissioner expressed disappointment at the slow progress of the LoC-funded Akhaura-Agartala rail project.
An official at the railway ministry said the railways minister will soon visit the project site and will inform the Indian side of what should be done in resolving the problems in the project.
