ICT submits probe report against five Jashore ‘war criminals’

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)’s investigation body on Tuesday submitted a probe report against five war crimes accused, including Siddiqur Rahman Gazi alias Siddique of Manirampur upazila in Jashore, to the prosecution.

Investigation officer Abdur Razzak submitted the probe report, according to UNB.

Mohammad Abdul Hannan Khan, chief coordinator of the ICT investigation agency, said they finalised six specific charges of crimes against humanity against the five war crimes suspects.

"We've brought six charges, including murder, torture and rape, against Siddiqur Rahman Gazi alias Siddique and four others," Hannan Khan told a press briefing at the agency's Dhanmondi office in the city.

He said a total of 13 people had been made accused in the case.

Of them, Siddiqur Rahman who was arrested Siddiqur in 2017 is now behind the bars while eight others died during the trial proceedings and the rest four remained absconding, he added.

All the accused had been involved in crimes against humanity carried out in Bhojgati, Dikkana, Noali, Durbadanga and Sarashkati villages in Manirampur upazila during the 1971 Liberation War, said Hannan.

Allegations of killing 11 people and violating four women were brought against them, he said.

The lone arrestee in the case, Siddiqur Rahman of Harergati village in Manirampur upazila, had been a member of the 'Peace Committee' during the Liberation War.

A total of 33 people have been made witnesses in the case.
