HSC pass rate falls to 68.91 per cent on new evaluation measures

The pass rate of HSC and equivalent higher secondary exams has fallen to 68.91 this year from 74.7 per cent in 2016, according to Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.

The difference was due to the new evaluation methods used in the exams, the education minister said, reports bdnews24.com.

He also expressed his satisfaction with the new procedures and the way the exams had been conducted.

A total of 801,711 examinees came out successful in the examinations in all the 10 education boards of the country.

Of these, 66.84 per cent passed the HSC examinations while 77.20 per cent came out successful in Madrasa Board and 81.33 per cent in Technical Board examinations, according to UNB.

A total of 33,242 students achieved GPA of 5.0, compared to 58,276 in 2016.

Nahid has handed over a summary of the results to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the Ganabhaban. The chairmen of the ten education boards were present at the time.

The education minister will go over the details of the exam results at a press conference at 1:00pm. After the press conference examinees will be able to check their results on the government website  (www.educationboardresults.gov.bd)  or by SMS.

This year HSC theory exams were held from Apr 2 to May 15 and the practical exams were held from May 16 to May 25. A total of 1,183,686 students participated in the exams.
