Honey fair starts in city

A five-day long honey fair has begun on Sunday in the capital to promote the idea of honey farming with modern technology and to spread knowledge of numerous uses of honey.

Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), like previous years, has organised the event at its premise.

Secretary to the industrial ministry Md Abdullah inaugurated the fair as chief guest while the BSCIC Chairman Mustak Hassan Md. Iftekhar presided over the function.

They also addressed a seminar titled ‘Collecting and conserving honey through healthy and modern system’.

Project director Khondokar Anisuzzaman spoke at the seminar.

In his speech, Abdullah said Bangladesh could export 100000-150000 tonnes of honey per year and to make it happened BSCIC needs to take efficient steps.

He also lauded BSCIC initiatives for the development of small, cottage and middle industries in the country.

BSCIC chairman Iftekhar informed that BSCIC has already provided modern training to 18,000 farmers.

He believed that honey farming in the country could easily be a source for minimising poverty.

In the fair, a total of 40 honey stalls have been installed for sales and display.

The fair will open for all from 10:00am to 5:00pm everyday during the fair.

BSCIS is organising the fair since 2016 under the project of ‘Honey Farming Development Project through implementing modern technology’.
