The High Court on Sunday summoned the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) chairman and another one over the history distortion in the textbooks for the students of secondary and higher secondary level education.
The High Court bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman passed the order after holding a hearing on a writ petition that was filed challenging the mistakes and distortions made in the textbooks.
The NCTB chairman and the member (curriculum) have been asked to appear before the court on November 10 this year to explain the issue.
The High Court also issued a ruling upon the respondents to explain as to why they should not be directed to take effective measures for bringing correction in the textbooks for the students of secondary and higher secondary level education.
Education secretary, NCTB chairman, member (curriculum), secretary, chief editor and other respondents have been asked to comply with the ruling within four weeks.
Md Alamgir Alam, a resident of the Jatrabari area of the capital also a guardian of a student of the Viqarunnisa Noon School & College, filed the writ petition recently.
Advocate Ali Mustafa Khan appeared in the court on behalf of the petitioner, while deputy attorney general Bepul Bagmar represented the state.
The petition said distortion and deformed presentation of the history especially regarding the father of the nation in the textbooks for the students of secondary and higher secondary level education of all over the country is mala fide.
