The High Court (HC) has ordered the lower court concerned to dispose of the bail petition filed by renowned photographer and Drik Gallery managing director Shahidul Alam by Tuesday.
An HC bench comprising Justice Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed the order on Monday after hearing on the petition.
Barrister Sarah Hossain and Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua stood for Shahidul, according to a UNB report.
Shahidul, who is now in jail in a case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act, filed the bail plea on August 28.
Earlier on September 4, one judge of a two-member High Court bench felt embarrassed to hear the petition, leading to the formation of another bench to hear it.
On September 5, the HC directed the authorities concerned to provide first-class division to photographer Shahidul in jail after hearing of a writ petition.
Detectives arrested Shahidul from his Dhanmondi residence on August 5 and the case was filed against him with Ramna Police Station on the following day.
Police accused Shahidul of spreading propaganda through his Facebook account during the recent safe roads movement.
