High Court orders Agrani Bank official Manik Pramanik to surrender 

The High Court on Tuesday ordered Manik Kumar Pramanik, a senior officer of Agrani Bank, to surrender in the concerned trial court within six weeks in a case filed over leaking admission test question papers and laundering money.

The court also refused his petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq passed the order after hearing an anticipatory bail petition filed by Manik Kumar.

Lawyer Mohammad Hossain appeared in the court on behalf of Manik Kumar, while Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.

Later Mr Hossain told the reporters that the High Court asked Manik Kumar to surrender in the Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court within six weeks after refusing his bail petition.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police on December 30 in 202 arrested six people, including Manik Kumar Pramanik, a senior officer of Agrani Bank, in connection with question leak of different university admission and bank recruitment tests.

The other arrestees are Rakibul Hasan Shanto, a senior officer of Janata Bank, Miraz, Rashed, Shafiqul and Ripon.

While investigating the allegations, the police got information about money laundering by Agrani Bank official Manik Kumar Pramanik, Janata Bank official Rakibul Hasan and former Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mafizur Rahman.

Later the police on September 19 this year filed a case with the Badda Police Station in Dhaka against the three persons on the charge of money laundering.

According to the case statement, the police found a transaction of Tk 40.85 million in nine accounts of Manik Kumar. He purchased a private car by Tk 4.8 million and built a luxurious duplex building in Rajshahi.

Manik Kumar and other partners were involved in leaking questions of different university admissions including Dhaka University and medical entrance, important government admissions and recruitment exams, including various banks, through digital devices, also read the case statement.
