HC to hear ACC appeal against 45 convicts for increasing sentences over Destiny scam

The High Court has admitted an appeal petition for a hearing lodged by of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) which sought an increase in the tenure of the sentences of 45 convicts including Destiny Group president and also former chief of Army Staff Lt Gen (retd) Harun-Ar-Rashid in a money embezzlement case.

The High Court (HC) bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order after an elementary hearing on the appeal petition.

Citing the court, ACC counsel Khurshid Alam Khan told The Financial Express that the ACC's appeal would be heard along with Harun-Ar-Rashid appeal against the punishment.

Earlier on June 4, ex-army chief Harun filed the appeal against his four years jail sentence in the case filed over embezzling Tk 18.61 billion through Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society Limited.

However, the HC rejected the bail petition filed by Harun in the case.

On May 12 in 2022, a special court in Dhaka sentenced all the 46 accused, including former army chief Harun and managing director Rafiqul Amin, to different terms of imprisonment in the case.
