The High Court has handed over One Bank’s principal officer Md Emran Hossain to the officer in charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station after rejecting his anticipatory bail petition in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The court on Monday also asked the OC to produce him to the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka within 24 hours from the date of receipt of the order.
Meanwhile, the court directed two other accused, Peshoara Begum and Rakiba Jahan, of the case to surrender in the concerned lower court within three weeks.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice A K M Zahirul Huq passed the order after holding a hearing on two separate petitions filed seeking anticipatory bail in the case.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal and advocate Mahfuz Bin Yousuf appeared in the court on behalf of the accused, while deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state, advocate Ashraf Uddin Bhuiyan appeared for the ACC and Barrister Khairul Alam Chowdhury appeared for the One Bank Limited.
ACC deputy director Syed Nazrul Islam filed the case on December 15 against 12 accused including the three with the integrated district office of the ACC in Dhaka.
According to the case statement, the accused embezzled Tk 114.02 million in collaboration with each other from the One Bank’s Gulshan-1 Branch in Dhaka.
The court asked the ACC chairman, the IGP, and the DG of RAB to take steps to secure the arrest of the absconding accused of the case so that they couldn’t fly away from the country.
